HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE UNCOMMON LAWMAKER, RT HON. SERGIUS OGUN


"When a man says yes, his destiny cannot say no". The foregoing aphorism aptly depicts and reflects the sour to soar story of Rt Hon. ( Barr.) Deacon Sergius Oseasochie Ogun, Member House of Representatives, Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo State. 

By every standard of sound judgement, the name Sergius Oseasochie Ogun, whenever it is mentioned, stands out distinctly with a striking peculiarity like the sound of a gong among drums. Rt Hon. Ogun's grass to glory story reminds one forcibly of the proverbial child who defeated the monstrous giant in the ancient land of Udo, and of the biblical David who killed the boastful Goliath with righteous rage!  

Born into the Ogun household in Otoikhimhin-Ugboha, Esan South East LGA, Edo State without the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, young Sergius started life with a deficit.  Nevertheless, he was irrevocably determined to distinguish himself in life and leave his indelible fingerprints on the forensic map of history.  The young and optimistic Sergius went into business in the oil and gas sector. He floated his company and nurtured it to  enviable success overtime.  Through dint of hard work, perseverance, patience and divine providence, he turned his pains to gains,  thus lending credence to the saying that: " your background is not the reason (why) your back is on the ground". 

His gradual but steady rise to affluence and influence did not becloud his senses of humility, civility, generosity, simplicity, modesty, honesty and above all, compassion for the poor, the needy and the less privileged. Propelled by the burning desire to give hope to the hopeless and put smiles on poverty stricken faces, he founded the Sergius Oseasochie Ogun Foundation (SOOF) in 2007 and began to  deploy huge chunks of his business profits to meeting the basic needs of poor and needy mass of humanity. SOOF which is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization has since become an established household name with well-known humanitarian programmes to her credit including but not restricted to the annual free medical outreach, annual free notebooks distribution scheme, annual free NECO/SSCE enrollment scheme, annual undergraduate scholarship grants, empowerment schemes, skill acquisition training schemes,  music talent hunt, charity/cultural day celebration,  sponsorship of inter-house sports competitions /amateur football tournaments, donation of desks and chairs to schools, construction of  free boreholes to mention but a few.

As laudable and commendable as the aforementioned programmes were and still are, the founder inevitably realized that much more still needed to be done to put  Agbazilo on the road to visible, measurable and all-round development. Based on this conviction oiled with the persistent pressure mounted on him to run for elective office, he resolved to contest the Esan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency Seat in the 2015 General Elections. The election was a landslide win. No doubt, his soaring popularity among the people, towering credentials and unblemished track record of excellence and achievements in the private sector and humanitarian world swayed the votes in his favour.  His good deeds, charming humility and disarming intellectual ingenuity preceded his foray into politics.

After the sweet maiden electoral victory, came his historic inauguration as a member of the National Assembly on 9th June,  2015. Ever since, it has been one tale of success after the other with a plethora of finished  constituency projects to his credit. Smarting from his sterling first term performance, Rt Hon. Ogun literally walked into his second term with majestic confidence and dignified grace. The people gladly renewed his mandate at the 2019 polls as their own way of rewarding his hard labour of four years! Today is not a day for political exhortation. The full chronicles of his achievements is a topic for another day.

No doubt, Rt Hon. ( Barr.) Deacon, Sergius Oseasochie Ogun, a Seasoned Lawyer, Spirit-Filled Deacon, Legendary Philanthropist,  Husband of one Godly Wife and Proud Father of Two Beautiful Children,  is God's priceless gift to this generation. As he clocks plus one today, this is wishing him a special and super birthday celebration filled with loads of joy, fun and golden moments. May God continue to protect and project him to higher heights of success and greatness in good health, peace and divine joy that passeth all understanding.

NAWOJ Demand justice for her member assaulted by Ex_husband

. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has noted with concern, the alarming spikes in the cases of physical and domestic violence against women by their spouses. The ugly development is becoming worrisome, reprehensible, dastardly thus, totally unacceptable . It is particularly worrisome to note that in the month of August 2022 alone, there were three documented cases of wife battery that inflicted serious physical injuries, mental torture, dehumanised sanctity and dignity of victims by their husbands in the country. One of the sad cases, is confirmed dead from the alleged  unfortunate violence. In a statement signed by the national president Comrade Ladi Bala, the cases include that of a Local Government Transition Committee chairman of Nnewi North of Anambra State, who is being accused of committing violence against his wife that  led to her untimely death. Edo 2024: Crisis Brew in Edo APC Over Oshiomhole's Endoresement of Preferred Candidate

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State may be heading into the September 21, 2024 Governorship election as a divided party, if the romours of imposition of Mr. Dennis Idahosa as his preferred candidate is true.
