DEMOCRACY DAY: OGUN SALUTES CONSTITUENTS, ASSURES THEM OF A BETTER FUTURE

The Honourable member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. ( Barr.) Deacon Sergius Oseasochie Ogun has hailed the  people of Agbazilo for their unalloyed commitment to the entrenchment of true democracy in the polity.

In the dark days of stark military dictatorship which was characterized by arbitrary rule, human right abuses, suppression of the press and extra-judicial killings, the people of Agbazilo were not left behind in the suffocating struggle to restore democratic rule to the nation's polity. Many illustrious sons of  Agbazilo joined the brutal fight that eventually culminated in the return of democratic rule in 1999. Our very own Late Chief Anthony Enahoro and other pro-democracy activists spearheaded the vanguard that gave birth to the democracy which we all are enjoying today. May their labour not be in vain.

Although the under-perfoming  government at the centre has failed to live up to its own larger than life electoral promises, we should be consoled by the fact that we have a listening and hardworking representative in the House of Representatives who is working round the clock to ensure that we get the true dividends of democracy. We should also take solace in the fact that Edo state is now under the control of PDP, the only party that truly means well for the ordinary people.

While it is glaringly obvious that the nation has been overwhelmed by monstrous insecurity, outrageous inflation, festering agricultural decay, infrastructural rot and failing economy occasioned by the unguided actions and inactions of the federal government, I enjoin the good people of Esan North-East and Esan South-East LGAs to not lose faith in Nigeria as the ephemeral pains  Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides are going through today will be ameliorated to a considerable degree when PDP returns to Aso Rock in 2023.

Therefore, I urge all Agbazilo sons and daughters that have attained voting age but are yet to obtain their voters card to  make it a point of duty to get themselves registered during the upcoming INEC continuous voter registration excercise scheduled to begin in the last week of this month of June, 2021. With our voters card, we can send the incurably evasive and irreparably ineffective APC-led national government packing from Abuja and elect a crop of competent, capable and committed leaders that can build the future of our collective dream.

While urging you all to stay safe and strong, I wish you happy democracy day!
