Benin Centennial Lions Club Holds Youth Empowerment Programme

Benin City - As part of activities to mark this year's International Youth Day Celebration, the Benin Centennial Lion's Club, District 404-A1 has empowered 20 unemployed youths with skills ranging from bread, cake, meat pie baking and other confectioneries.
The event, which also had in attendance to motivate the youths, Lion Patience Eferyana NLCF, GST Coordinator, Edo Region 9, took place at the exquisite VFG Bakery, along Irhirhi road and saw excited youths trying their hands on various condiments, baking items and machines.
Addressing participants at the event, Lion Sunday Ajayi NLCF, President of the Benin Centennial Lion's Club, said the event is part of the corporate social responsibility of the club in the new lionistic year, and that a day has been set aside globally in the Lion's Calendar to ensure that youths who make up over 75 percent of Nigeria's population , are meaningfully engaged to reduce youth restiveness and unemployment.
"If our youths are meaningfully engaged, crime and criminality will be reduced to the barest minimum, as well as general disillusionment in the current state of the nation. It is important to carry our next generation along in the scheme of things." the President stated. He assured the youths of better times and implored them not to lose hope in the progress of Nigeria.
Also in her goodwill message, the GST Coordinator Lion Patience Eferyana applauded the Benin Centennial Lion's Club for the initiative, describing it as worthwhile. She encouraged the youths to take advantage of the skills learnt to better their lots and contribute their quota to societal growth.
Highpoint of the training was the sampling and display of confectioneries made by the youths under the supervision of the tutor, Mrs Nkiru Nwafor, MD/CEO of VFG Bakery, and presentation of certificates of participation to beneficiaries by the President and GST Coordinator.
