Edo Assembly confirms Eight Commissioners.


The Edo State House of Assembly has today confirmed the appointment of eight of nine commissioner nominees sent to the house for screening by the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki to serve as  commissioners in the state executive council

The confirmation process took place during resumed plenary at the Hallowed Chambers of the Assembly complex after the chairman of a three-man Adhoc committee responsible for the screening of the nominees, Majority Leader, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo, member representing Ikpoba Okha constituency presented the screening report.

According to him, the screening exercise was rigorously done and carefully detailed to ensure candidates meet all the criteria.

The screening committee chairman who is also the house majority leader applied that the house dissolves into  committee of the whole to  consider the report presented before it. 

After much deliberations the House reverted to plenary and agreed with the One Point recommendation in the report to confirm the eight of the nine nominees as Civil Commissioners of the state. 

According to the Adhoc committee Chairman, the ninth commissioner was unavailable to be screened due to some personal emergency on his part but will be screened on a later date.

The Commissioner nominees while speaking to legislators before their confirmation  promised to work in line with the "Mega Agenda" of the Governor to bring about development to the people as well as to deliver on commitments and quality service to the state.

On his part, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun expressed optimism at the eloquent presentations made by the nominees. He emphasized on the endless need to carry Edo youths along  in policy formulation and decision making in every aspect of governance.

The speaker thereafter requested the House Clerk, Alhaji Yahaya Audu-Umogbai to forward copies of the presentation to the Governor to inform him of the confirmation. 

The eight Commissioner nominees cleared today are Mr Christopher Osaretin Nehikhare, Omololu O. Ojehomon, Afishetu Braimoh, Stephen Ehikioya Idehenre Esq and Engr Osasere Malachi Evbuomwan. Others are: Okogbe Donald Ojemeh,  Okojie Nosawe Newton and Engr Jonathan Osioakpaiemhe Lawan.

While Bamidele Obaitan will be screened at a later date.
