NUJ DELTA CONGRATULATES COMRADE SONIA UNOBUNJO, DESCRIBES HER VICTORY AS PRAYER ANSWERED FOR DELTA NAWOJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council congratulates Comrade Sonia Unobunjo for emerging the Chairman, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Chapter.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary Comrade Patrick Ochei which says, we are pleased to note that her victory in the July 15 election was deserving, she fought so hard to clinch the position which she graciously got.

It should also be noted that Comrade Unobunjo's antecedents as a former Vice Chairman of NAWOJ, former two terms Chairman of DBS Warri Chapel of NUJ and former Caretaker Committee Chairman of NUJ Delta State Council, played a major role in her emergence.

Comrade Unobunjo's experience is not in doubt, and so we welcome her on board to bring her wealth of ideas and experiences to rejuvenate the leadership of the Union in the State. 

In every contest one person must emerge, and so we encourage her to bring everybody on board in her leadership, carry them along and make a difference. 

Of course, in her first agenda in seeking to lead the women's wing of our great union was service; and so we urge her to render service without fear or favour for the Democratic and overall good of all her members.

They also use the medium to call on all NAWOJ members in the State to support and cooperate with Comrade Sonia Unobunjo's administration. They further adviced her to avoid the temptation of introducing divisive tendencies and primordial sentiments. 

It is our prayer that the Executive under the leadership of Comrade Sonia Unobunjo succeeds to raise the bar and lift NAWOJ to the next positive level. 

Once again, we as Council congratulate her and wish her the best in office.

Edo 2024: Crisis Brew in Edo APC Over Oshiomhole's Endoresement of Preferred Candidate

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State may be heading into the September 21, 2024 Governorship election as a divided party, if the romours of imposition of Mr. Dennis Idahosa as his preferred candidate is true. NAWOJ Demand justice for her member assaulted by Ex_husband

. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has noted with concern, the alarming spikes in the cases of physical and domestic violence against women by their spouses. The ugly development is becoming worrisome, reprehensible, dastardly thus, totally unacceptable . It is particularly worrisome to note that in the month of August 2022 alone, there were three documented cases of wife battery that inflicted serious physical injuries, mental torture, dehumanised sanctity and dignity of victims by their husbands in the country. One of the sad cases, is confirmed dead from the alleged  unfortunate violence. In a statement signed by the national president Comrade Ladi Bala, the cases include that of a Local Government Transition Committee chairman of Nnewi North of Anambra State, who is being accused of committing violence against his wife that  led to her untimely death.
