The World Bank celebrates World Water Week 2022

By Osaiyekmwen Confidence Osarumwense World Water Week is been celebrated and organized each year by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) where experts, professionals, innovators and entrepreneurs from various countries and sectors with developing solutions for water-related issues meet. The theme of this year's event is "Seeing the Unseen:, The Value of Water," with a focus on the diverse aspects of water, how others view and value water, and the exploration of water’s full value to society. This happens to be the first time the conference will be mongrel by allowing delegates to join online and/or in-person. The event is happening in Stockholm, Sweden. The World Bank Group will convene and participate in multiple sessions on topics ranging from transboundary cooperation and financing to agriculture, technology, innovation, and the climate crisis. The ongoing event started August 23 to end September 1, 2022.

Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, gives seven days ultimatum to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu to unravel the circumstances surrounding the suspected ritualist den in the State

. Governor Obaseki gave the order through his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Pastor Crusoe Osagie at the State Police Command in Benin. Obaseki said various reports have emerged since the news about 20 mumified bodies found in an uncompleted building and shrine broke out in the state. He said this has given rooms to comments from various citizens of the state and across the federation, adding that it is proper for citizens to know the truth and the police should help out in a record time. “We don’t want to preempt the outcome of police investigation but the police is actively doing their investigations, a lot of speculations going around, some people suspect that the place is a quack morgue where they preserve bodies. “All kinds of speculations are out there. Revoking 52 TV/Radio stations licenses unacceptable. .. NUJ president

The decision by Industry Regulator , the National Broadcasting Commission - NBC, to revoke the licenses of 52 broadcast stations nationwide over indebtedness to the Commission was ill advised. In a statement signed by the national president of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo, the affected stations, according to NBC are said to owe arrears of licence fees amounting to N2.6 billon since 2015. Although the Director General of NBC, Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah claimed that this development had no political motives, yet we insist that the action was ill timed and reckless. It should be noted that this wholesale revocation of licences at this critical time of insecurity in the Country appears to be a decision taken without careful prior deliberation, consultation or counsel.  While we regret the inability of these broadcast stations to fulfill their obligations to NBC, in-view of dwindling resources, we caution against such large scale clampdown of broadcast stations in disregard to ...

NAWOJ Demand justice for her member assaulted by Ex_husband

. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has noted with concern, the alarming spikes in the cases of physical and domestic violence against women by their spouses. The ugly development is becoming worrisome, reprehensible, dastardly thus, totally unacceptable . It is particularly worrisome to note that in the month of August 2022 alone, there were three documented cases of wife battery that inflicted serious physical injuries, mental torture, dehumanised sanctity and dignity of victims by their husbands in the country. One of the sad cases, is confirmed dead from the alleged  unfortunate violence. In a statement signed by the national president Comrade Ladi Bala, the cases include that of a Local Government Transition Committee chairman of Nnewi North of Anambra State, who is being accused of committing violence against his wife that  led to her untimely death. In a statement signed by the Hon. Commissioner, Mr Chris Nehikhare,  the ministry  rejoices with all the youths on the  occasion of the International Youth Day 2022. According to him, Edo state recognizes and values young men and women as important resources and state assets and situates their needs and aspirations at the center of state development. That is why it has adopted a practical, coordinated  and strategic methodology to produce a first of its kind Youth Development Program Policy.  The first dialogue session with stakeholders is holding on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Edo NUJ congratulates Osaigbovo on appointment as CPS to Oba Ewuare ll

 The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has sent a message of felicitation to Mr Osaigbovo Iguobaro on his appointment as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare ll. A statement signed by Comrades Festus Alenkhe and Andy Egbon, the Chairman and Secretary respectively described the appointment as a positive development for the union. While thanking Oba Ewuare ll for finding Osaigbovo worthy of the appointment the statement wished the CPS well in his new appointment.  It also urged him to be good ambassador of NUJ by bringing his wealth of experience to bare.  Osaigbovo lguobaro is a seasoned journalist and Secretary to the Correspondents Chapel of the Edo State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.  He is the Edo State Correspondent of the People's Daily Newspapers.
