EDO NAWOJ Advocates more attention on girl child education.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Edo State Chapter has demanded that the education of the Girl child be accorded a priority.
This is contained in a statement signed by the chairperson, Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan and secretary, Comrade Rosemary Okoduwa in celebration of this year's International Day of the Girl Child with the theme "Digital Generation our Generation " called on stakeholders to pay attention to the digital rights of the girl child by making digital world accessable and safe for her while maximizing its benefits.
Edo NAWOJ pointed out that digital literacy can not be achieved by individuals and organisations alone rather, there's need for a tripartite relationship where government would play a major role.
According to the statement, Government at all levels should provide enabling environment such as steady electricity supply, reduction in data tariff and availability of ICT centres both in the urban and Rural communities .
The Girl Child as a leader, positive game changer and fundamental source of transformational change for gender equity, Edo NAWOJ stressed the need for parents and stakeholders in the Education sector to help the girl child seek career in science and technology related field like their male counterparts.
The statement also added that the need for government to give more scholarship to the girl child especially the less privileged ones to enable them assess formal education to better the lots of the society
