Obaseki's Policies in Education Lauded as Education Ministry Mulls Partnership with Okonofua Foundation

Benin City - The Edo State Government's policy direction in the Education Sector in the State has been applauded.

 The commendation was made on Friday, September 23 in Benin City by a team, led by Dr. Benjamin Okonofua, Director, Okonofua Foundation during a courtesy call on Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Edo State. 

Dr. Okonofua commended the Commissioner for the giant strides of the Ministry in inspiring an active and digital teaching staff through the EdoBEST initiative which he said, has galvanized Edo school teachers into a modern education multilevel system which he noted will enable them compete with their peers at the global stage.
 
Dr. Okonofua stated, 
"I congratulate the state government and your ministry for your clear policy direction in the education sector in Edo State. 

There has been qualitative improvement in the standards that everyone can see. We are excited that in Edo State the interest of teachers have been fully engaged and they can clearly come out and compete anywhere in the world. While the expectations are higher, we will also continue to do our best to ensure the motivations keep coming in for our teachers through awards and other recognitions. We are looking to increase the stakes from the current status quo to a higher level of awards and benefits next year. I implore you to also consider sponsoring legislations that would further help to improve the status of teachers, in terms of remuneration and welfare and to further strengthen their commitment to service by so doing".  

Responding, Dr. Joan Oviawe commended the Okonofua Foundation for being consistent over the years in supporting the education sector through its many social re-engineering platforms which create vistas of opportunities for students to get scholarships and for teachers to equitably compete with their peers and win awards and recognitions.  

"You are not only just talking, but you are walking the talk. Your consistency over the years as a critical stakeholder in the ecosystem has helped in putting in place the right policy framework to achieve the things we have achieved in the sector. The EdoBest 2.0 ensures teachers must be in school and the children must be learning, the School O' Clock ensures that school age children are in school and learning and that their future is in no way jeopardised. It has become better and more robust, and there has also been improvement in the remuneration of teachers." 

She noted that the Ministry is setting up a Parents' Council to further entrench active parental participation while getting serious minded stakeholders to systemize engagements and interface with education authorities. 

The Okonofua Foundation has been in the frontline in giving support to education authorities in the state in order to inspire and motivate both students and teachers through scholarships, teachers awards, basketball ball events, among other prize-winning competitions.

Edo 2024: Crisis Brew in Edo APC Over Oshiomhole's Endoresement of Preferred Candidate

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State may be heading into the September 21, 2024 Governorship election as a divided party, if the romours of imposition of Mr. Dennis Idahosa as his preferred candidate is true. NAWOJ Demand justice for her member assaulted by Ex_husband

. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has noted with concern, the alarming spikes in the cases of physical and domestic violence against women by their spouses. The ugly development is becoming worrisome, reprehensible, dastardly thus, totally unacceptable . It is particularly worrisome to note that in the month of August 2022 alone, there were three documented cases of wife battery that inflicted serious physical injuries, mental torture, dehumanised sanctity and dignity of victims by their husbands in the country.
