Justice for Uwaila

Image
By Osehobo Ofure In August 2020, three months after the brutal rape and murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin, the Edo State Police Command paraded six suspects in connection with the crime. Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a female microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo, was found lying in a pool of blood at a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Benin City. She had apparently gone to the premises to study ahead of resumption of academic activities. Her murderers attacked and raped her in the church after knocking her unconscious. They also smashed her head with a fire extinguisher. She died on May 31, 18 days after, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. She was 23 years old. The Police had paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Benin City, with then state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, giving their names as Nelson Ogbebor,  Akato Valentine,  Tina Samuel...

...APC leadership has selective amnesia...withdraw your cases from court so INEC can conduct by-election, PDP tells APC...APC infringing on fundamental human rights of constituents

Image
The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has observed with keen interest the sudden volte face and selective amnesia that has inflicted the leadership of APC in Edo state in recent times. In a statement signed by the publicity secretary Mr Chris Nehikhare, Edo people recall how the leadership of APC conspired to deny 14 constituencies representation in the State House of Assembly. Edo people have not forgotten how in a gestapo manner, those now appropriately referred to as former House of Assembly members-elect tried to storm the state house of assembly complex and when they failed, they converged in a private residence and in a treasonous modus operandi, began to dish out ‘motions’ and even ‘laws’... like a butterfly who thought itself a bird. These “rascals” demonstrated an acute obsession with propagation of falsehood, lies and alternative facts. Their behavior was a threat to the peace but Edo State government and Edo people ignored their folly. As their u...

DEMOCRACY DAY: OGUN SALUTES CONSTITUENTS, ASSURES THEM OF A BETTER FUTURE

Image
The Honourable member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. ( Barr.) Deacon Sergius Oseasochie Ogun has hailed the  people of Agbazilo for their unalloyed commitment to the entrenchment of true democracy in the polity.  In the dark days of stark military dictatorship which was characterized by arbitrary rule, human right abuses, suppression of the press and extra-judicial killings, the people of Agbazilo were not left behind in the suffocating struggle to restore democratic rule to the nation's polity. Many illustrious sons of  Agbazilo joined the brutal fight that eventually culminated in the return of democratic rule in 1999. Our very own Late Chief Anthony Enahoro and other pro-democracy activists spearheaded the vanguard that gave birth to the democracy which we all are enjoying today. May their labour not be in vain. Although the under-perfoming  government at the centr...

OSAZUA IVBAZE, TRIBUTES TO T B JOSHUA

Image
Dear Man of God  To some , who may read this post, it is the strangest thing they have yet seen for the living to address a letter to a man that is dead. But for me , there is nothing strange— it is a measure of the high regard I had for you when you walked the earth- winning souls for Christ. I am not aware of another Pastor in Nigeria, that gave much to the poor as you did. You gave lavishly of your time, concerns, material things and money to the needy. Though you were wealthy and a man of immense accomplishments, you were unaffected, humble and unassuming. You walked your talks. From a very humble and near poverty ravaged beginning, you rose to become a highly respected Christian personality and voice in global space.  I am not a member of your Church. As a  Christian who is not driven by denominational fever, I fell in love with your Emmanuel TV which made me to really understand you.  Never for once did you allow negative opinions about ...

A REBUTTAL TO USING ESAN POPULATION AND VOTING FIGURES AS MEANS OF RESOURCE AND POWER ALLOCATIONS IN EDO STATE

Image
Francis Ilenloa Igberaese Ph.D It is pure nonsense using data occasioned by immigration to determine how resources, especially positions in government are allocated in Edo State, because apart from the incorrectness of the census figures, progress in under-developing countries requires geographical mobility of labour from the less developed region to the more developed region. Its attendant "backwash effects" cannot therefore be avoided. It is tricky and dishonest to use only location or residency data as means of resource allocation if "spread effects" is the focus of our developmental goal, instead of also using indegeneous data.  Experts in development matters also posist that given the disadvantage destinies of less developed countries in the development matrix (e.g. dualism of the economy), we have no need holding fast to unscrupulous geographical or residency data, otherwise, labour would be scare in where it they are most needed...
